Our Review of the Kelty TC 2.1 Carrier baby backpack

The new Kelty Transit Carrier (TC) 2.1 is an update of the Kelty TC 2.0 baby backpack, offering the same basic features as the 2.0 but with a narrower profile, new colors, more durable fabrics, and improved adjustment features for the shoulder harness. Great for bringing a child up to 40 lbs. along on daytrips, while you travel, or on short hikes, the affordable TC 2.1 is a comfortable and versatile Kelty baby carrier for everyday use.

Thanks to its light aluminum frame and collapsible cockpit, the Transit Carrier 2.1 doubles as durable daypack for times when you need a pack but not a carrier.

BENEFITS FOR PARENTS

By keeping your child close (and your arms free) in a Kelty Transit Carrier while exploring a new city, hitting the trails, or just walking to the grocery store, your child shares the experience from the same perspective - not at knee height in a stroller. For you, the ease with which you can put on and adjust this comfortable framed back carrier is hard to match. And should you head out without your child, the cockpit cinches shut to serve as a durable Kelty backpack.

Comfort & Convenience Features

Equipped with a padded and curved waistbelt and shoulder straps with multiple adjustment points, the comfortable harness of the Kelty TC 2.1 fits the way you want it to. In a functional improvement over the TC 2.0, the Transit Carrier 2.1 features a sliding torso adjustment system that allows you to get the best possible balance and fit. The TC 2.1 is easy to get on and off, and the zip-off diaper bag makes time away from home with your child that much easier.

BENEFITS FOR BABE

Kelty backpack carriers offer a distinct advantage over strollers by keeping your child close and by providing a raised perspective on the world around. The well-padded cockpit is equipped with a 5-point harness and made of breathable fabrics. Securely seated in the comfortable cockpit seat of the Kelty TC 2.1, your child will be close and content, viewing the world around just as you do.

Safety:

  • 5-point adjustable harness
  • Load lift straps for easy ons and offs

Great for short people

Reviewer: Brenda , Denver, CO Date: July 30, 2007
I have a really short torso & this pack is so adjustable, it fits me perfectly! My 8 month old loves it because of the great padding. I hike in it, but I also do chores around the house with my little guy riding around with me. He thinks it's fun, and I can get a few things done!

Good Product

I bought the Kelty TC 2.o about three months ago and have approx. 40hrs of use with it. I really like this carrier. We have also a Kelty Ridgeline that's about 5 years old-I was never very comfortable with that and my husband carried our daughter most of the time. I am an avid hiker, but rather plump, and every carrier I tried had supports that dug into the top of my butt. I fell in love with the TC 2.o as soon as I spied it in REI. I stuffed my son in it and wore it around the store for about an hour. I would have bought the next one up, but they didn't have one in stock. The TC 2.0 is very comfortable, easy to use, the straps are very obvious to figure out, and the frame stands up just fine for loading and unloading, though my son is very enthusiastic about climbing in and wiggling down into the seat. Three things that could be better: 1, my son is 20mos, 32 lbs and tall so the shoulder straps are at the max and almost too small for him already. 2, with the seat at the lowest adjustment his little legs hang out on either side of the frame and there is not really any padding to protect him, esp. from the hard skid rails on the bottom. 3, for hikes or mall walks over two hours the shoulder straps start digging in. They're very adjustable, the first ones that don't crush my bosom down across my lower ribs, but could use a little wider nylon webbing and maybe beefier padding. Other than that, I have had a great time with this pack. The contour of the frame hugs my back and doesn't hit the back of my head- I can actually look up and around with it on! I wear it filled with our daytrip goodies until my son tires out and then I pop him in and keep going. It also worked great at the airport leaving my hands free to lug everything else, and it folded up and stowed under my son's seat just fine. I hope a similar pack with a higher weight limit will soon be forthcoming, as my son is growing like a weed, and I will be beside myself when he grows out of his TC 2.0.
