DO NOT BUY THIS JUNKER

Reviewer:  Singer-less in Seattle  See all my reviews

First of all, I only gave this one star because you have to choose something, otherwise it would be "0" stars. Second, when I first read the reviews I was skeptical but thought, "I know what I'm doing, it won't be a problem". WRONG! I have been sewing since I was little and when my husband wanted to buy me a machine for my birthday, I unfortunatley went with Singer thinking this is what I am familiar with. Too bad, now my machine is destroyed and Target won't take it back. Within the 90 day warantee the hook timing was off and so it was fixed under warantee. By the time I got around to trying it again, assuming the guy actually fixed it, I was disappointed to see that you can't even pick up the bobbin thread! I have tried and tried again and the machine is toast. I hoped that it was me and took it to a store to see if someone would guide me in working the machine and nope, they told me to take it back and that it was junk. I tried to return it to Target shortly after the 90 days and nothing! The guy at the repair shop said he would have to charge me for the work and so when I called Target customer service they said call Singer. Guess what? Over a week later I have called so many times and every time the line is busy. I guess they have their hands full with all the other bad product people must be calling about. Do yourself a favor, get an old metal singer (I have a 1955) and invest in that. Or, just buy another brand and spend a few extra bucks for something that's heavier duty. Sorry singer... you [stink]!

Love It......

This machine is great. I took a sewing class through my church last year (6 sessions), and since then I have sewed about 6 clothing items (shorts, pants, jackets, dresses etc.).

Very Disappointed

I have been sewing on and off since I was a child, but more seriously in the last year or so, and I have to agree with many other sewers...do not go with a Singer! The bobbin tension is a continuous problem, I spend more time ripping out seams than I actually do sewing. I have also found that if I use any other bobbins other than the ones that came with the machine, I have a mess. The thread at the top gets wound around the spoke for no reason, my thread breaks, it's very frustrating.
It is an easy to understand machine with a good manual, but even if you do everything according to the instructions, it still doesn't work properly.

I got two lemons in a row

Reviewer:  Unhappy Customer  See all my reviews

I've been sewing for more than 40 years but only on a basic machine (plain and zigzag stitches only). The price and additional stitches of this machine were very attractive. But the bobbin thread jammed continually. I played with the tension (little screw on the bobbin case) to no avail. Finally the machine just stopped; the handwheel would not turn.

I returned that machine and got another figuring it was just a lemon. The second machine was worse. When I turned the second machine on and loaded the bobbin, the handwheel just wouldn't turn. I removed the hook race cover and the hook, oiled and reassembled all to no avail (the handwheel will turn if the hook and hook race cover are not in place). I'm returning this one and going for a more expensive machine.

Great machine, once you understand how it works

This is a great machine, but may be a little difficult for beginners. I say this because some seem to have the impression that the machine is supposed to do everything for you. First, read the manual thoroughly so you can understand how it works. Second, when I first started using this machine, my stitches kept getting tangled and bunched together until I realized all I needed to do was fix the tension. You just have to play around with the machine to understand how it works. Third, the "S" button is not in the stitch selector dial but stitch length, since I've noticed some people have said that it's missing. I've made 4 different projects with this machine so far and I love it. Works well and I'm sure I'll have this one for a while.

Very Disappointed

After reading the reviews on this machine I was skeptical but hopeful, being familiar with the Singer name. The minute I opened the box to try the machine the needle got stuck and the stitches came out loose. Finally, the needle got stuck in the machine and the wheel would not turn. Brought machine back to Target. Second machine the backstitch button on the front almost fell off after using it for the first time. I am a basic sewer and have used machines before. I was so excited to use this machine. I had to rip my sewing project in order to get the needle out. I even switched to better quality thread. I don't recommend it. Target even had it on sale for $20.00 less than sale price. There may be a reason. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Another reviewer stated there was no S. I found the same problem. Now I have to return this machine as well. Singer really fell short of quality on this machine. Even the foot pedal feels like cheap plastic.

Loving it!!!!

This sewing machine, is just that - A MACHINE! I have been sewing for over 7 years now and it is one, if not the best machine I have ever used. I think the previous rating may have been from someone who is not very familiar with the sewing world. Nothing but A++++++++++!

First Time Buyer

I am a beginner sewer and have never bought a sewing machine before. I picked this machine based on the good reviews. However, I have had nothing but problems with this machine. It constantly jams and the tension is always off. In addition to that, the stitch width is not that wide even on the widest setting. The buttonhole feature is simple and easy to use. I find it hard to believe that I have outgrown this machine in about a month. I already need to have it serviced and I should have bought a machine that has more features.

This machine is a dream come true! Tried 3 others before finding this dream machine! I sew EVERYDAY! I sew for a living! This machine can handle it! I work with mostly knit fabric, and this machine can handle whatever I throw at it! Works as well as my old, very old machine that was stolen 10 yrs. ago from my car. Wonderful machine! Dont need or want computor based machine! What is the sense of that? Sewing should be sewing!!

Very great for any skill level!

Reviewer:  Whitney  (Seattle, WA)  See all my reviews

I bought this machine when I wanted to get back into sewing, and only have very basic skills that my grandmother taught me several years ago. It's so easy to use and adjust, the manual is very helpful, and it's made all the projects I tackle a breeze! Looks like some people have had bobbin troubles, but I've had no issues thus far and have owned the machine about 1 year. Highly recommend it for the price!
