I read the reviews before I bought it and it is fast! What else can you expect from a motor as powerful as one that you find in some of the stand mixers, but you know, I do what I've always done, whirl the dry ingredients around with the beaters before I turn the mixer on. Started doing that over forty years ago cause I would make huge messes in my mother's kitchen otherwise. You know, it hasn't failed me yet.

I purchased this hand blender as a Black Friday special. I had read all the reviews here and a couple of other sites,but honestly the price was so dirt cheap,I thought if I really could'nt deal with the flinging of food everywhere I won't feel bad about flinging the flinger in the trash and be done with it. Well, I tried using it for several different types of recipes. Long story short, it's lowest setting is like a kitchenaid or cuisinart med.high or high...
The retractable cord stopped being retractable after 3 uses...
The ejector button is tough to use and am waiting for it to stop working like it has for others here.
The attachments are great though!
To keep down on the mess/flinging of food EVERYWHERE I put my mixing bowl in the kitchen sink and ONLY use very deep, narrower bowls to mix in.
I also have bought a cuisinart 7 speed hand mixer for all else that I need to hand mix and use this Oster demented over aggressive monster for stiff bread doughs and such. Hope this helps with your decision........

I purchased this mixer about a month ago, and have used at least once a week since then. The retractable cord is a wonderful feature, and one of the reasons why I had purchased this model. It makes it much easier to store, and the cord doesn't get tangled. The settings are perfect- I haven't had to use anything above the 2 setting- and this mixer makes quick work of cupcake batter, muffin batter, pancake batter, and butter.

I got this as a gift and I thought the retractable cord was a great feature. My mother-in-law needed a new hand mixer so I bought her this one even though I hadn't used mine because I thought the cord feature was useful and Oster products are typically good. However she used it twice and went back to her old battered mixer because the lowest speed on this one sprays EVERYWHERE!! I read the reviews on here before I bought it but thought it wouldn't be too bad, but it's horrible!!! Do not buy this mixer unless you want your ingredients everywhere but in the mixing bowl.

This mixer looks nice and great attachements, but like previously stated, it doesn't have a slow speed. So, it's not very useful to me if I can't get the ingredients started without it spraying all over the place.

I was in a hurry to replace my old hand mixer and, because of the name "Oster" I bought this mixer. It sure is powerful but I think the slow speed is too fast. also, the retractable cord doesn't work very well as with the ejection button (it doesn't work at all).

The mixer is stylish and nice, and I loved the price and all of the attachments. But, as the reviewer before me stated, the speeds seem to be fast, faster and fastest. Even after I read her review, I brought the mixer because of the reasonable price and all of the attachments, but was disappointed when I placed it on low speed and my batter splattered out of the bowl. One needs a lower speed to add ingredients while mixing. That is the only negative.

I like the retractable cord and all the attachments but all the speeds seem to be fast, even the slowest setting is pretty fast.
