I got my first bread maker about 15 years ago. It was a Black and Decker and had a two year warranty. The DAY the warranty was up, the motor went. i called Black and Decker and they gave me instructions to return it and sent me a new one. I've had that one for 13 years and it's still going strong.
I wanted a horizontal maker a few years ago and bought a Breadman- piece of junk. Parts broke off, the pan is thin.
Back to Black and Decker because they are the best at this particular applicance. You have to measure ingredients very carefully, which is the case with any bread maker. Also, you should never open the machine to check out how it's doing because that will mess with the temperature.
Once again, Black and Deck is #1.

We've tried 2 different recipes and each time the dough isn't properly mixed, and the bread comes out raw covered in unmixed flour.

I bought this Black & Decker bread machine 2 months ago and I love it. You have to read instructions before start using it.
All the bread I made smells & tastes wonderful. I bought this same one as a bridal shower gift and my friend loves it to dead. I'm also planning to get one as a gift for my sister.

but i can not make a loaf work in this thing! The first one just tasted bad, maybe it was the recipe i got on line but the second one didn't mix properly and there is a layer of flour on top, also, my house doesn't smell like fresh bread during the process, it smells like melting plastic. i'd return it if i hadn't thrown out the box already
