This crib compares nicely to the products that you see at other retailers at this price. As far as paint chip issues go, I have none. And, it clearly states that the finish is baby safe, non-toxic, so if the finish wears, I won't be too upset. This is a very inexpensive crib that will do the job!

I am so surprised to see such negative reviews on this crib, because I would purchase the same crib AGAIN for our son's nursery if only they came in black! We've had this crib for 3 and a half years now and we love it. My favorite part about this crib is the drop rail on the side - it is very very easy to move up and down and if you're gentle, you can raise the rails (after putting your sleeping little one in the crib) without making the tiniest sound! I've used cribs where moving the side rail was like listening to someone run fingers down a chalk board! The only negative is that we do have a little bit of paint that has chipped where my daughter used to bite down on the side rail - but it's not nearly as bad as one of the reviews I've read. You have to remember you're paying less than 200 for this crib while you could easily pay double that for one much less easy to use and operate.

We bought this crib, like many other people it seems, due to the great reviews in books and magazines saying it is a great value. That is probably true, but not as an online purchase. [...] So, if you can find this crib in a store, forego the hassle of shipping and buy in store.

My son has used this crib for more than two years. It is still nice and sturdy and we hope to use it for the next baby. I like how the white finish is easy to match with other white furniture. Another reviewer mentioned the paint chiping. This has not been a problem for us. My son did chew away some paint along the top of the side railing when he was going through that phase but the damage is very very minimal and could have been prevented had we just purchased the plastic protectors to begin with.

Based on the solid reviews [...] we were confident that the Child Craft crib (model #10171) would be a reasonable compromise between price and quality. We ordered it from Target, on-line. When it arrived, the box seemed intact, but several problems became obvious quickly. First, the mattress spring had a bent leg which we had to hammer back into alignment. Second, one of the four spring brackets (the brackets that holds the mattress spring) wasn't machined, so it was impossible to install the screws that connect the mattress spring to the bracket and therefore the frame. Third, the dropside does not have right angles - this means that it's almost impossible to align the dropside in the frame. And even when we managed to align it in the guides, it's completely impossible to lock and unlock the dropside. (And in our defense, my husband and I have successfully assembled 20+ pieces of furniture, so the problem is not with our comprehension of the instructions.) The wood is very soft. We will simply return this to Target rather than trying to work out the issues with child craft as even if they correct defects in the parts, the crib itself is too flimsy to trust.

Before my baby turned 8 months the paint started to pell of... She gasped several times with it. She had to sleep for 2 months in my bed. They only sent a new crib (not white) to me after I said I would have to talk to my lawyer.
They said it was ok that my baby was eating the paint. paint!!!!
This company is a nightmare if you someday have a problem with the product. Just don't take the risk...We paid higher for that.

Purchased this item due to the great reviews. The crib was shipped via UPS and the box was damaged when I received it. Called Child Craft and they promptly sent me replacements parts for the damaged areas and apologized, no questions asked. Customer service at Child Craft was great. So far, we are happy with the crib, seem's very sturdy. Broken parts were clearly UPS's fault, not Child Craft. I like that we can easily turn this into a daybed without purchasing additional kits. Most other cribs like Simmon's requires kit's to convert them.
