I am really shocked to the bad reviews on this product. I got this last year for christmas from my parents, and I think it works great! I even took it down to a relatives house for them to use for the time we were there, and They even loved it. I havent had any problems with the CD player or anything, To me, it works great and its a great product for the money.

I purchased this for my daughter (now 8) two years ago. We haven't had one problem with it. In regards to the "whirring" noise, you have to make sure not to have the pause button on, otherwise the cd will spin soundlessly. But my 8-year-old can easily work all the functions and has used it several times a week for two years. It's not a high end stero system, it's a $35 boom box, and in that regard it's met all expectations.

I have owned 3 of these so far, and of the 3 one has been FLAWLESS in performance...however, the other two both did the "whirling" noise when you tried to play cd's.
That being said, these are HIGHLY durable and tough radios...I have a 2 year old and she has dropped, thrown, rolled down stairs, and dunked in the pool...and these radios have held up fabulously.

i bought this boombox yesterday and set it up in my baby's room just to play cds at a nice, quite volume. put a cd in and all i could hear was this whirring noise! pushed down on it, stopped the noise for about 10 seconds. the radio part worked fine, but i would have had to have the volume up LOUD to not hear the "whir" the cd player part made. very annoying, took it back today and no more were available.

If you are looking for a CD player that works great for three months and then dies, then this is the product to purchase. Otherwise, save your money and look for another product that comes with a warranty longer than 90 days. This stereo looks and sounds good for the money, but the CD player just stopped working after 100+/- days of use. The radio and tape player still work, but who has tapes these days?

I had the same problem as the prior post. I too bought this for my daughter's room and used it only for the radio during the day and CD at night. I never even changed the CD and one night it just stopped. It would not read the CD. If you purchase this radio, I recommend registering with Memorex so when it dies you can possibly get a new one or at least get it fixed. However, I strongly recommend looking for a different radio with good ratings.....

I bought this for my daughter in September. It lasted about 3 months, when the CD reader died. The store will not take the return after 3 months and the manufacturer fails to back up its product.

I have had this boombox on my desk for a year. Before then, I had the previous model for 4 years. After 4 years, the bracket inside for the pop-up CD cover broke. Now the model has changed so you don't push the top down and won't push it too hard and break it. :) It has great sound and reception, and I haven't had any such problems as the other reviewers. Possibly the satisfied customers don't need to review.

I originally bought this because I just needed something inexpensive to listen to my CDs or the radio. It says something that I went and bought the newer model of the same product. Great value.

Don't buy this boom box. The FM tuner is very weak, could not get a good signal from a radio station right in my hometown. Tuner for radio is way to sensitive, and too tough to zero in a channel. Antenna is too small to get a good FM stereo signal. CD player stop recognizing, and then stopped spinning CDs in just 3 weeks of use. When the box was opened, boombox was found to have a broken tab on battery box lid, and a missing screw. Do not put Memorex and the terms quality control, fit for use, and or acceptable performance in the same sentence.
In the case of this product, they are incompatible terms.
