Vantec's Efficient Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler Since the introduction of 7200 RPM hard drives, passive cooling for HDDs were no longer sufficient. As with any computer component, a hard drive can only perform reliably if it is kept within its specified operating temperatures - the cooler the hard drive, the more efficiently it can perform. As the spindle motors inside the drive spin, the temperature of the hard drive rises dramatically, often leading to read errors, reduced life cycles, and even loss of data should the temperature surpass the heat threshold.
Vantec HDD coolers help keep your hard drive well within its specified temperature range, often resulting in more than 100% heat dissipation. By keeping your hard drive cool, you not only increase stability, but the efficiency of your hard drive. Available in 5.25" and 3.5" solutions, with a Vantec hard drive cooler, you can ensure the reliability of your important data.

*****NOTE:
This fan will only install on the under-side of a Hard Drive. If you are required to mount your HD with a plate, bracket or other on the bottom of the HD, this fan WILL NOT work.

This product is ok. MY HD was 51 degree celcius before I put this thing into it that make it drop to 44 degree celcius. this is not the drop I expected, the same model made by Ultra was poor quality and lasted only 2 month but it cooled my temps of 12 degree celcius wich is more acceptable in my opinion.
In the end, it is a good product to buy. 44-45 Ceclius for a HD is ok.

Web pages stated 20 cfm, package stated 9 cfm. Quite a difference. But it works fine. Keeps my Seagate Barracuda 500G drive about 11 degrees C cooler. Prevents the overheat notices that I was getting. Runs quiet. If I add another internal drive I will definitely install another cooler on it.

I had my doubts about paying nine bucks for a hard drive cooler, when there were much cheaper ones on the market. But what I liked about this was its low profile and the fact that the fan housing is aluminum. I bought two and they worked great on my 10,000rpm SCSI drives. The hard disk temperatures dropped from 65 degrees celsius to 37 degrees celsius, which is just about body temperature. If I had a different case I would have had an intake fan blowing across the disks, but since I didn't, these were the best options, and I didn't have to modify my drive racks. Make sure you have enough space for both. I didn't have enough space to screw both of them on the bootom of each disk, so I had to use a sticky strip to adhere the second fan to my #2 SCSI. It works well though, a 30 degree drop is a big improvement.

Nice product, especially for the price.
Some modification may be needed for a proper fit.
I had to drill new holes in my CoolerMaster Stacker 830 aluminum HDD cage, as the attached fan caused the HDD to sit up a bit higher in the cage slot. I also installed these in an XPS Gen 4 computer, and the HDD with attached fan fit perfectly in that particular case. Some cases will require modification while others will house the HDD with attached fan unit without any problem. It's a bit hit and miss, but this can be made to work in any setup, regardless. It may just take a little work. These provide a good solid stream of much needed air for the HDD and it does so quietly. I'd recommend this product if the prospect of possible modification doesn't frighten you.
