| I don't have a PhD in thermodynamics, but it's obvious that the ''heat pipes'' merely transfer heat from one side of the hard drive to the other. If both sides are the same temperature, no heat will flow. The only cooling benefit comes from the finned heatsink on top. The pipe should pass through that, but doesn't. As useful as a Cherrybomb muffler on a Honda Civic, all flash and no benefit. |

| Outside of space issues, which for my cooling habbits is a problem even without this thing, its a great addition to my demon box. Since this mounts on top of the drive, I coupled it with a vantec HDD cooler on the bottom of my drive and a front bay cooler to max out the effectiveness, keeps drive around 15 degrees cooler than my other drives that only have the bottom mounted fan.
For my next build, I'll most likely buy a few more |

| this heatsink won't work with conventional mounting screws, but it does come with its own so use them
its very effective in drawing out heat, however if your using a raptor x drive at 10,000 rpm your going to need to also have a powerfull fan as well to pull away the heat
i have 2x wd raptor x's with two of these ultra's and a thermaltake 80mm fan
all this effectivly keeps the drives cooler than any other set up ive tried. |

| The previous reviewer is right, it does not fit all drives properly. Drive-mounting screws did not fit properly and the case mounting pads come apart. The concept and design are good, but the drive mounting hardware design is very poor. I've been building boxes for over 15 years and never had the fit problems that I had with this device. Once you get your drive mounted in the cooler and your case it works well, if it will fit. Smaller cases might have a problem with the size. |

| Works as advertised.
However please note that it needs a full 5.25'' drive bay PLUS ample space above it (like another empty 5.25'' drive bay).
Also make sure that your IDE cable can be routed conveniently before buying this cooler.
(I had to change the case with a bigger one and do some extra work on the cd-rom drives in order to accomodate 2 hard disks with these radiators and accomodate the ide udma cable connector positions). Make sure to check all these before buying. Other than that, all is ok. Just don't forget the homework before buying, since there is no return possible (it would be hard for this device to break). |
