Whether in the home or at the office scanners play an important role, especially when copies of documents are needed immediately or when photos need to be converted to a digital format. Packed with the Kodak’s renowned image quality, the Kodak i40 Sheetfed Scanner gives you everything you want from a small desktop scanner. A duplex desktop workgroup scanner, it produces color and grayscale images at up to 25 pages, equivalent to 50 images, per minute. It has five output options – bitonal, grayscale, color output, and two Dual Stream options – thus giving you a wider range of choices.
Included in the i40 is a unique document feeder that makes it easier to scan small and thick documents such as identification cards and licenses. It attaches or detaches in seconds, as well as front-feeding and return of documents. This document feeder, along with other features such as a multi-feed detection, autocrop, deskews and color dropout were only previously available to higher volume scanners.
The i40 also comes with a Perfect Page Scanning feature that allows scanning of poor-quality documents at maximum speed and get exceptional images. Because of this, there will be no need to rescan or change your scanner’s settings.
Another unique feature in the i40 is its one-button functionality which permits you to assign up to nine scanning applications and select one, all in just one touch of a button. You can then continue by pressing the scanner’s start button to begin scanning with the selected application. This feature makes scanning various documents easier and more efficient compared to those without this function.
The i40 also comes with the Kodak Capture Software Lite, ReadIRIS Pro CE, and demo versions of Kofax Capio and QuickScanTM Pro software. The Kodak Capture Software Lite helps you maximize productivity by offering you a range of scanning features for any workgroup application, plus it is easily upgradable to its full version. The ReadIRIS Pro Corporate Edition, on the other hand, provides multi-page optical character recognition and direct scanning for PDF files.
The Flexible Electronic Color Dropout feature is also present in the i40. It aids in suppressing non-critical red, green or blue background to improve forms processing. The multi-feed detection, in addition, helps in creating better scanning productivity.
Known for its easy setup and integration, the Kodak i40 Sheetfed Scanner is ideally fit for your workspace. With an optical resolution of 600 dpi, a daily volume of 1,000 pages a day and the ability to scan documents with a maximum size of 8.5” x 14”, this little giant ca be as effective as you want it to be. With numerous imaging features including image edge fill and adaptive threshold processing, there is probably no other feature that you can think of that the Kodak i40 Sheetfed Scanner does not have. If it is easy, fast, and great images that you want, then get the Kodak i40 Sheetfed Scanner now.
The Kodak i40 is an awesome workgroup scanner. I am using in an individual a small home office environment with Visa Ultimate. Installed quickly with downloaded drivers from Kodak site as install disk didnt include Vista drivers. The Kodak Capture Software Lite version is very robust for my needs, but not intuitive unless one has previous scanning expertise. My goal was to output to PDF only but again not intuitive, but works great after figuring everything out. The quality for black & white, grayscale and color is superb. I also use PaperPort SE for quick and dirty single page PDF scans. This did not come in the box. Most all the other software that comes with the i40 is trial stuff aimed for heavy duty office scanning and indexing. I almost picked the ScanSoft product from Fujitsu but chose the i40 for speed, flexibility, and software options and I am very glad I did. The price is unbeatable from TigerDirect.

The price is excellent. I also have the nearly identical Xerox Documate 252 and paid nearly $800 for it. The software that Kodak provides takes a little time to figure out. I prefer Paperport. Don't get scared that it does not have drivers for Vista or Mac...they can be found on the web. This model does NOT include the ''Special Document Feeder'' listed in Kodkak's site for scanning ID cards and thicker media. This item is included in the latest production run and Tiger likely has older merchandise that need to be liquidated. In general this scanner is truly an excellent bargain and works great...it has no poblems making pdfs, even searchable pdfs using Paperport.

Having a number of Fujitsu scan snaps in the office we decided to experiment with this unit. The good is that it is lightning fast at normal settings and the feeder appears to be top notch. The bad is that the scans come out readable but much more blurry than the scansnap scans. We have tried turning up the contrast or using a slower setting but there are other problems with each setting. If you need speed with just ok scan quality this unit will do just fine but if you need a unit that has clearer scans with a slightly slower speed go with the fujitsu, especially if you convert your scans to Adobe rather than Twain or Isis which Fijitsu doesn't offer.
By the way most of the non driver software with the Kodak is temporary testing software that you then have to buy if you want to keep using it as opposed to the fujitsu software which is mostly ''forever'' software. Even the best bargains are sometimes not as good.

Great scanner - nice small size, straight forward setup - unless you run Vista in which case the supplied setup CD does not work and you have to download the drivers from the Kodak website. Files can only be saved (each page is a separate file!) in jpg or tiff format - I am still waiting for someone to figure out how to save documents in pdf format. Worst part: my unit did not have a ''K'' number (whatever that is), so Kodak refused not only the warranty registration, but also tech support (but offered to assist if I took out a service contract). Performance is otherwise fine, but if I cannot resolve the pdf file issue, the scanner will be useless to me. My hopes are set on Tigerdirect's tech support since I cannot rely on Kodak.

best purchase of the year! 10 minutes to setup and scanned 1288 pages in less than an hour and a half (644 pages-both sides). I have never had a product work as great as this one. Scanner is great. Software is great. Tigerdirect is great. Don't hesitate and miss this deal.
